Estate, Gift and GST Tax Specialist

  • Job Details

    • Responsible for the preparation/review of estate, gift and generation skipping tax returns, including
      • Determining taxability of assets
      • Analyzes transactions
      • Determine tax elections for filing
    • Review trust and estate documents and help with administration of estates.
    • Be a resource to the firm for all things Estate, Gift and GST.
    • Oversee charitable filings related to estates


    • Knowledge of preparation of Estate, Gift and GST Tax Returns
    • Proficient in reading and interpreting estate tax documents
    • Knowledge and experience with fiduciary and individual tax helpful
    • Exposure to Estate Administration, including fundings helpful

You’ll be responsible for… 

  • Preparing and reviewing tax returns, including ensuring all federal and state income tax returns are prepared timely, accurately, and in compliance with applicable laws. 
  • Going deeper into our clients’ individual, entity, trust, estate, and gift tax returns to minimize their liabilities and identify new strategic planning opportunities 
  • Consulting with clients, reviewing their tax information, and responding to questions and concerns. 
  • General accounting for businesses to be used in preparing income tax returns, including preparation of trial balances and related adjusting journal entries. 

You need… 

  • A bachelor’s degree 
  • At least two years of experience working in a CPA firm preparing and/or reviewing tax returns 
  • Prior experience with tax software (Sure prep, Go System, GFR preferred) 
  • An ability to work effectively both as part of a team and independently
  • The organization to multiple priorities, tasks, and simultaneous projects 
  • To be proficient in Microsoft Office products (Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Teams)

Executive Assistant

Friedman & Huey Associates LLP is an exciting, mid-sized, multi-office suburban Chicago CPA firm with a boutique, high-level tax practice. We are looking for an Executive Assistant to join our team in our Homewood or Frankfort office. No need to commute downtown! This position will provide executive administrative support to Partners, Principals and will include assisting Finance, Marketing, Human Resources, and/or the Firm Administrator. The Executive Assistant will regularly interact with senior leaders, all levels of staff and clients. This role requires supreme integrity, trust, and commitment to confidentiality and diplomacy. The ideal candidate must be self-driven, resourceful and think outside of the box.  Functions will include some but not all of those listed below:


Essential Functions

  • Practice management software administrator – to become the data steward responsible for maintaining accurate database, developing best practices and procedures, and training firm staff
  • Working knowledge of QuickBooks to upload and process files and assist with other related administrative tasks
  • Assist Finance department with reconciling firm credit cards, accounts payable responsibilities, and organizing and tracking renewals of professional memberships
  • Assist HR department with recruiting, onboarding processes, benefits enrollment and administration, employee record keeping, and with education and training
  • Assist with marketing initiatives and projects including proofreading/reviewing scheduled social media posts and email blasts, maintaining lists for distribution of marketing materials, and maintaining firm website to ensure accuracy and most relevant content
  • Assist Firm Administrator with special projects related to operations of the firm
  • Administer and maintain PracticeForward materials, lead implementation and develop best practices for the firm
  • Actively assist in the management of Outlook calendars, including but not limited to independently scheduling internal and external meetings, confirming appointments, etc.
  • Attend committee meetings, take, and transcribe meeting minutes; be a proactive member of the team by volunteering and participating in meetings and committees
  • Assist tax scheduling manager with reports, issues and/or conflicts
  • Read, respond, or draft response to incoming emails for Partners; compose routine correspondence


  • Bachelor’s degree required, concentration in business administration preferred
  • Minimum of 5-7 years of administrative or operations experience supporting a partner and/or senior executives in a fast-paced, confidential, professional services environment
  • Demonstrate skills in the areas of time management, communication, interpersonal skills, high-level of emotional intelligence, relationship building, collaboration, and problem solving
  • Ability to incorporate creative approaches to various projects by taking initiative and working independently
  • Keen sense of accuracy, attention to detail
  • Advanced working knowledge of MS Office Suite, certification preferred (skill testing required); experience working with PowerBI a plus
  • Basic accounting knowledge a plus

Tax Manager

Friedman + Huey is looking for an experienced, tax manager with a robust skill set to join our team. Our growing boutique tax practice spans across areas such as individual, corporate, partnerships, fiduciary, estate and gift, exempt organizations, and more.

Our tax team provides support to all members of the firm involved in client engagements, not just to partners and managers. It is a true team approach, with involvement with multiple generations of clients and family entities, assisting in performing research, analysis and the development of tax strategy alternatives.

The ideal candidate will need to be able to effectively multi-task and be a quick learner, who is willing to work with all levels of the F+H team, from support staff to partners.

Tax experience across various types of tax returns in a public accounting environment is preferred. Opportunities are available in our Northbrook, Homewood and Frankfort offices. (Remote arrangements are possible.)
